Starting a Podcast with my Best Friend

When tasked with starting a podcast, I first planned to do one with my sister. We are three years apart, and I thought we would each have unique perspectives on going to UNC and post-grad life. However, she is currently getting her Doctorate of Nursing Practice at Johns Hopkins and was too busy with finals to record with me.

So I turned to my best friend that I met in college, Rachel, and here are some quotes from our first episode of Two Roommates in a Pod:

“And I’m not going to lie, I kind of thought you were a little interesting. I thought you were a little weird just because you just like a shot, you know? Like the shot of espresso.”

“Also, can I say one quick thing? I know why men do this.”

“I enjoy my time on Reddit. It’s a guilty pleasure.”

“I didn’t think I would find, you know, the person that would be standing next to my sister or when I get married, or like even the person that I was going to get married to.”

Recording a podcast was easy with Rachel, as we got to do what we do best– talk, a lot. This time we were mic’d up. As you can tell from the quotes, we talked about everything from where we will be in five years to the latest pop culture drama. We’ve done two episodes that were well over 20 minutes, and I cut them down– partially because Rachel mentioned things that the internet does not need to hear.

While I did this for a class, both of our moms listened to the podcasts and were huge fans – to no one’s surprise. They’ve been asking for a third episode and my mom even suggested keeping it going for girls who want to go to UNC and want a glimpse into what it is like. I think it could be a great way for Rachel and me to keep up if we are in different places post-grad.

So who knows? You might be seeing more of Two Roommates in a Pod, and if you do, give it a listen! You can check it out right here on my website under the Two Roommates in a Pod tab!
