Behind the Scenes: Madness in the Triangle

Back in March, I was a March Madness correspondent for WRAL News! It was a busy week in the Triangle as there were four different NCAA host sites all within a 30-minute drive. This was the most of any one place in the country. I got to attend virtual press conferences with Courtney Banghart, UNC women’s head coach, and Wes Moore, NC State women’s head coach. I also got to attend a Duke Practice at the Lenovo Center and interview some fans! (https://www.wralsportsfan.com/duke-fans-dominate-raleigh-rooting-section/21920563/)

One of my assignments was to film a day in the life package to see how much basketball a fan could watch in the Triangle in a day. I had a ton of fun filming it as it was different from my typical assignments.

I started the morning by brewing some coffee and checking my bracket. I then swung by Carmichael Arena where students were lining up at 11 AM for a 4:30 tip-off. I then head down I-40 to Raleigh, where NC State’s women’s team was hosting their first-round matchup at Reynolds Coliseum at 2. I met a friend at the Player’s Retreat to eat and watch the game before heading back down 40.

Back in Chapel Hill, I watched the women’s game at He’s Not Here with a friend before heading home to watch more basketball on TV. I checked my bracket one more time, ready for the UNC men’s and Duke women’s and men’s games the next day.

It was a late night of editing, but it was a ton of fun. You can check out the video here:
